Everyone said that we had something between us, he always laughed because he never notice how I shatter every time he notice someone else, but what really destroyed me was the day he broke the news that he was leaving and maybe never coming back. Years passed and I never heard from him and because of that, feelings almost vanished along with him but there were still memories hunting me for what I once felt.

Now that he is back, it is he who looks for me, it is he who begs for my lips after that one time our lips met for a first kiss, it is his heart that breaks, for I once promise myself that I would not drop another tear. As much as I want him vanish from my life again he would not go, and every time he's back I fall in to his arms becoming that delicate girl that I once was.

My bus was leaving in the morning, and we would never see each other again, so there was no need to posture. We had enough money between us for a short stack of buckwheat pancakes. A few morning papers were delivered to the front door, and we worked our way through the crossword puzzle, coffee cups between our hands. Already the eaves were weeping, icicles thinning on trees and telephone wires. This is what Montana does in midwinter: You forget your scarf and mittens on a hook behind the door.

Before he kissed me, he asked me if I was ready. I hired a violinist to play our love song as we held each other for the first time in three decades. After wishing to be with her all those years apart, we finally married.

While I sat soaking in the fresh air after a two-week bout of bronchitis, he stood watching the waves roll in. He asked if he could sit next to me.

We people-watched and talked about which dog breed was our favorite. We watched the sunset together. We now return to that spot every year on our anniversary.

My boyfriend had asked me to meet him at the beach. I grumbled as I made my way to the shore. For me and my wife, it was love at first sound. She called my apartment in a huff at 1: We ended up talking for two hours, learning a lot about each other, and falling in love.

Twenty-seven wonderful years later, her voice is still music to my ears! But over the years, our passion shape-shifted into smoldering resentment, periodically erupting into fiery altercations. Our two sons were in middle school when I moved us away from the inferno.
